Lebanon slams Israel's military threats

BEIRUT, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Suleiman on Friday asked for international pressure on Israel to end its military threats against Lebanon.

"The international community should pressure Israel to stop adopting the policy of threats and aggression against Lebanon and to cooperate with international and Arab peace initiatives in the Middle East," Suleiman said in a statement.

"Israel's continued threats to launch a military operation against Lebanon in addition to daily violations of (Lebanese) airspace are flagrant violations of (UN Security Council) resolution 1701," which enforced a ceasefire that ended Israel's inconclusive 2006 war with Hezbollah, he said.

Israel now still regularly sends warplanes on surveillance flights over Lebanon.

Last week, Israel Defense Forces Home Front Command Chief Maj. Gen. Eyal Eisenberg warned that the next war with Hezbollah would be ten times fiercer than that of 2006, predicting that Israel might be bombarded with ten times more rockets every day by Hezbollah than seven years ago, should a new war erupt.
