Missouri pedestrian killed in hit-and-run accident | Columbia Brain ...

Anytime a pedestrian is walking down the street, having their guard up for oncoming vehicles is vital. However, if a vehicle is erratic on the road or being driven by someone who is under the influence, being alert may not be enough to ensure safety while walking along a roadway. One Missouri pedestrian recently became the victim of a hit-and-run accident and an alleged intoxicated driver behind the wheel may be to blame.

A 26-year-old was walking close to an intersection when a car came along and hit him. The car then left the scene. While the pedestrian was transported to a medical facility for treatment, he later died from the hit-and-run accident.

The driver reportedly went to house near the scene and told someone what happened. That individual called the police to report the incident. Police then arrested the female driver for leaving the scene and for suspicion of driving while under the influence.

Any formal criminal charges against the driver could end up costing her fines, loss of license or even her freedom in a Missouri criminal court proceeding. However, regardless of the criminal charges, the family of the pedestrian may have to deal with the financial fallout of losing a loved one in a hit-and-run accident. They may have staggering medical bills to pay and funeral costs, along with the possible hardship of lost wages. The family may be able to pursue civil action against the driver based upon evidence that she was negligent, and that could result in an award of damages that could help alleviate the financial burdens the accident may have caused.
