Oxford University takes over Radcliffe Infirmary site

A NEW chapter has been written in the history of one of Oxford?s most iconic buildings.

Yesterday saw the reopening of the newly refurbished Radcliffe Infirmary as a home for the teaching of humanities at Oxford University. The building was originally opened in 1770 and was a hospital until 2007.

It has been completely refurbished as part of the university?s ?220m renovation of the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter.

This included replacing the well-known Triton statue which sat outside the building for 150 years. Prof Andrew Hamilton, vice chancellor of Oxford University, said: ?We are delighted that, as it did in past years, the building will be playing a very important role in the advancement of knowledge.?
