CLEARFIELD ? Finance Committee members recommended that property taxes remain at 25 mills for the 2013 budget at Thursday night?s Clearfield Borough Council committee meetings. The recommendation was unanimously approved by a 5-0 vote and will be presented to the full council next week.

In addition, the committee recommended that the budget be advertised to be placed on public display. At that point, Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott indicated the budget was for the council members? eyes only and wouldn?t be released to the news media until all council members vote to place it on public display at next week?s regular meeting.

Stott said she?s expecting the Clearfield Revitalization Corp. (CRC) and the Clearfield Community Pool to be seeking contributions from the borough for its renovation project. However, she said the pool?s association members have been holding off in requesting a contribution from the borough. She said they have been waiting to learn the status of grant funding from the state?s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).

Council member Tim Winters asked if these items were reflected in this copy of the 2013 budget. Stott said a $1,000 contribution to the CRC had been included in the budget. However, she said if the council chose to donate to the pool it could ?open up a can of worms,? because it hasn?t donated to other things.

She had hoped the block grants would be an applicable funding source, but it doesn?t appear as though they will be. Winters pointed out that the pool is currently conducting a major fund drive.

?So it?s a big decision for council,? said Stott.
